WHY TEST PHYSICALLY?
Despite their engineering excellence, diesel engines can suffer sudden failures. These disruptions—whether in electricity generation or marine operations—can result in substantial financial and operational losses. Often, the culprit lies in overlooked or faulty components, such as over-oiling or malfunctioning safety systems, causing downtime and expensive repairs.
Fortunately, such risks are entirely preventable. Every diesel engine is fitted with three critical safety switches. Monthly testing of these switches is crucial, and inspections must be performed by a certified NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) lab. Regular inspection reports should be obtained and reviewed for proactive maintenance.
If a safety switch is found defective, it should be promptly replaced—and the new component must be tested before installation to ensure reliability
Diesel Engine
1. Temperature Switch
2. Overspeed Switch
3. Low Lube Oil Pressure Switch
1). Purpose: Prevents engine damage caused due to overheating.
2). Why test physically? Sensors and switches degrade or drift over time. This kit ensures that the switch triggers a shutdown or an alarm at the correct temperature. This also verifies coolant flow and thermostat operation.
1. Purpose: Prevents engine damage or seizer of engine due to excessive RPM.
2. Why Test Physically? RPM sensors or governors may malfunction. Ensures that the switch cuts fuel or shutdown at set RPM.
1. Purpose: Protects engine from running without sufficient lubrication.
2. Why Test Physically? Oil pressure sensors can clog or fail. Confirms the engine shuts down or alarms when oil pressure drops. Prevents catastrophic engine ailure due to friction and heat.
